Add a WordPress site

  1. Go to Sites and click Add site.
  2. Choose A new site. (To move an existing site here instead, see Bring a site over.)
  3. Pick the server, if you have more than one, and give the site a title.
  4. Check the admin email (WordPress sends its notices there) and the admin username.
  5. Click Install WordPress.

It’s ready in under a minute, on a temporary address you can use straight away. When you’re ready, connect your domain.

We suggest one like steve-k7q2: your name and four random characters. Bots trying to break into WordPress sites guess usernames like admin first, so a name that’s hard to guess keeps most of them out. Names like admin, administrator and wpadmin aren’t allowed. You can also log in with your email address.

Your sites also keep usernames private: WordPress’s author pages and the list of users its REST API offers don’t show them to visitors.

On the site’s page, WP Admin login (at the top) shows the username and password, and Open WP Admin takes you to the login page.

If you change the password in WordPress, the dashboard can no longer show it, and says so. Use Reset password to get a new one if you’ve forgotten yours.
