Help me fix this
When a site stops answering, you get an email and the site’s page shows that it’s down, each with a Help me fix this button. You can also run it from the site’s Overview any time.
What it checks
Section titled “What it checks”In about a minute, without changing anything:
- Is the site answering visitors right now?
- Is the server running, with enough disk and memory?
- Are its services running: the web server, PHP and the database?
- Does the site answer on the server itself?
- Can visitors reach it?
- Is it getting far more traffic than usual?
- What errors has the site logged, and which plugin or theme they come from?
The fixes it offers
Section titled “The fixes it offers”Depending on what it finds:
- A plugin crashing the site: turn that plugin off.
- Can’t tell which plugin: find the broken plugin. It switches plugins off half at a time to narrow it down, then turns the rest back on. Follow it on the Plugins tab.
- A traffic flood: turn on under attack mode.
- A stopped service: restart PHP, the web server or the database.
- The server not answering: restart the server (owners and admins).
Nothing happens until you click a fix. Afterwards, it checks the site again to see whether it worked.
When it can’t fix it
Section titled “When it can’t fix it”If it can’t find the cause, or the site works but you still see a problem, click Contact support. What it found is sent along with your message, so you needn’t explain it again. See Contact support.
