SFTP and the file manager
The file manager
Section titled “The file manager”The site’s Files tab lets you browse, upload, download, edit, rename and delete the site’s files in the browser, and unpack zip files. It’s for owners and admins on your team.
Nothing is lost by mistake:
- History shows what was changed, deleted or replaced, by whom. You can bring any of it back for 30 days.
- From backup shows the site’s files as they were in any backup, so you can bring back one file or folder without restoring the whole site.
Turn on SFTP to work with the files from an app like FileZilla, Cyberduck or WinSCP: for example to upload a large theme, or move files from another host.
- Go to the site’s Settings tab and find SFTP.
- Click Turn on SFTP. The card shows the address, port, username and password to use.
- In your app, choose SFTP (not FTP) and enter those.
Each site has its own SFTP login, which only reaches that site’s files. To sign in with an SSH key instead of the password, paste your public key in the card.
Turn off SFTP when you’re done: it’s one less way in. New password replaces the password if it may have been shared.
