Backups

Every site’s files and database are backed up every night, around 3 AM server time, and stored off the server, encrypted. Nothing to set up.

Every backup from the last 2 days, then one a day for 14 days and one a week for 4 weeks.

We also take a backup just before anything that could go wrong: updates, restores, moving to a larger server, moving or copying a site. Those are labelled, like “Before update”, so you know which one to go back to.

On the site’s Backups tab, click Back up now, for example before you change a theme.

On the Backups tab, pick a backup and click Restore. You choose what to bring back:

  • Everything: files and database, the site as it was then
  • Files only: themes, plugins and uploads, keeping today’s posts, orders and users
  • Database only: posts, orders, users and settings, keeping today’s files

A fresh backup is taken first, so a restore can be undone with another restore.

To bring back one file or folder instead, use the file manager’s From backup view (see SFTP and the file manager).

Download gives you a .zip of the site’s files and database, for your own copy or to move it elsewhere.
